Chartered Accountancy will see new courses on prosecution, psychology, philosophy and Artificial Intelligence in the new curriculum for 2024, said Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) president Aniket Talati in Surat Saturday. The new courses will be announced on Chartered Accountants Day on July 1, he added.
“On CA foundation Day, President of India Droupadi Murmu will make the announcement on the new course for CAs. The curriculum of the new course has been prepared as per the National Education Policy and current requirements such as Artificial Intelligence, forensic audit, startups,” Talati said on the sidelines of the two-day National Conference of Chartered Accountants that commenced in Surat Saturday. Over 1,100 CAs from across the country participated in the two-day national conference organised by ICAI.
“The new courses will be introduced in 2023 and the exams will be conducted in 2024, so that budding CAs who are currently pursuing the old course can finish their foundation, intermediate and final exams this year. From next year, all CA exams will be conducted as per the new curriculum,” he added.
Generally, the courses are changed and fresh ones are introduced every 10 years. Accordingly, the previous update of the curriculum was July 1, 2017. “Day by day, markets are changing and many new things are coming up. Hence, our committee feels there is a requirement for the new courses. We worked on it and finally got it passed in the gazette,” Talati said.
Sharing more details, former Central Council Member of ICAI, Jay Chhaira said, “In the new syllabus of CA, more importance has been given to prosecution, psychology, philosophy and Artificial Intelligence. In the old courses, there were four papers in the foundation course, and eight papers each in intermediate and final. In the new course, there will be four papers in the foundation and six each in intermediate and final. The gap between the two papers has been arranged in such a way that students have to do self-study and at any time, they can give online exams. The new courses will have international acceptability, provision of subject choices has been made except core subjects, three years of articleship in the old course has been reduced to two years.”
