The CBI has arrested a private consultant for accepting a bribe of Rs 2 lakh from a complainant on behalf of Regional Provident Fund Commissioner Neeraj Singh at the EPFO Rajkot.

A case was registered against the private consultant, identified as Sachin Jashani, and Neeraj Singh. A statement by the CBI said that Jashani had allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 20 lakh on Singh’s behalf “and other unknown public servant(s)” for settlement of false EPFO dues levied on the complainant’s firm. The complainant alleged that Jashani agreed to reduce the bribe amount to Rs 11 lakh.

The CBI laid a trap and caught Jashani red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 2 lakh.

Following this, searches were conducted at the premises of the accused in Rajkot.

Jashani was produced before the court, which remanded him to police custody.
